    This work deals with the analysis and characterization of nonstationary spatial texture in SAR images. Most studies considering texture in SAR images are using stationary statistics and spatial isotropy hypotheses. However, visual observation of data shows that dominant orientations may appear in the image. Moreover, measures of autocorrelation at different locations in the image suggest the use of a nonstationary model.In this work, a parametric model based on anisotropic gaussian kernels is introduced for the second ordrer statistics of SAR intensity. This model is simultaneously taking into account the non-stationary and spatially anisotropic behaviour of the data.Hence, different estimation methods related to this model are presented, then one of these methods is applied to speckle filtering.Ce travail porte sur l'analyse et la caractérisation de la texture spatiale non stationnaire dans les images SAR. La plupart des études considérant la texture dans les images SAR utilisent les hypothèses de stationnarité statistique et d'isotropie spatiale. Cependant, l'observation des images montre que des orientations spatiales privilégiées peuvent être présentes. De plus, la mesure à différentes positions de la fonction d'autocorrélation suggère l'emploi de modèles non stationnaires. On introduit ici un modèle paramétrique basé sur des noyaux gaussiens anisotropes pour les statistiques d'ordre deux des images d'intensité SAR. Ce modèle prend à la fois en compte le caractère non stationnaire, ainsi que la présence d'anisotropie spatiale. Ensuite, différentes méthodes d'estimation relatives à l'orientation locale dans les images SAR sont proposées, puis l'une de ces méthodes est appliquée au filtrage du speckle

    ·Cet article propose un nouveau modèle pour les statistiques d'ordre deux de la texture spatiale dans les images SAR. La fonction d'auto-covariance est approximée localement par un noyau gaussien anisotrope (AGK) 2-D dans le but de décrire la texture en termes d'orientation et d'anisotropie locales. L'estimation des paramètres de la texture à une échelle donnée est basée sur l'opérateur nommé tenseur de structure et ne requiert pas l'estimation explicite de l'auto-covariance. Enfin, un nouveau filtre nommé AGK-MMSE prenant en compte cette information spatiale est introduit et comparé au filtre MMSE géométrique classique. Le filtre proposé présente de meilleures performances en termes de préservation de la texture et d'amélioration des structures

    Early Brain-Body Impact of Emotional Arousal

    Current research in affective neuroscience suggests that the emotional content of visual stimuli activates brain–body responses that could be critical to general health and physical disease. The aim of this study was to develop an integrated neurophysiological approach linking central and peripheral markers of nervous activity during the presentation of natural scenes in order to determine the temporal stages of brain processing related to the bodily impact of emotions. More specifically, whole head magnetoencephalogram (MEG) data and skin conductance response (SCR), a reliable autonomic marker of central activation, were recorded in healthy volunteers during the presentation of emotional (unpleasant and pleasant) and neutral pictures selected from the International Affective Picture System (IAPS). Analyses of event-related magnetic fields (ERFs) revealed greater activity at 180 ms in an occipitotemporal component for emotional pictures than for neutral counterparts. More importantly, these early effects of emotional arousal on cerebral activity were significantly correlated with later increases in SCR magnitude. For the first time, a neuromagnetic cortical component linked to a well-documented marker of bodily arousal expression of emotion, namely, the SCR, was identified and located. This finding sheds light on the time course of the brain–body interaction with emotional arousal and provides new insights into the neural bases of complex and reciprocal mind–body links

    Virtual camera synthesis for soccer game replays

    International audienceIn this paper, we present a set of tools developed during the creation of a platform that allows the automatic generation of virtual views in a live soccer game production. Observing the scene through a multi-camera system, a 3D approximation of the players is computed and used for the synthesis of virtual views. The system is suitable both for static scenes, to create bullet time effects, and for video applications, where the virtual camera moves as the game plays

    Large-scale wearable data reveal digital phenotypes for daily-life stress detection

    Physiological signals have shown to be reliable indicators of stress in laboratory studies, yet large-scale ambulatory validation is lacking. We present a large-scale cross-sectional study for ambulatory stress detection, consisting of 1002 subjects, containing subjects' demographics, baseline psychological information, and five consecutive days of free-living physiological and contextual measurements, collected through wearable devices and smartphones. This dataset represents a healthy population, showing associations between wearable physiological signals and self-reported daily-life stress. Using a data-driven approach, we identified digital phenotypes characterized by self-reported poor health indicators and high depression, anxiety and stress scores that are associated with blunted physiological responses to stress. These results emphasize the need for large-scale collections of multi-sensor data, to build personalized stress models for precision medicine

    International multicenter propensity score matched study on laparoscopic versus open left lateral sectionectomy

    Background: Despite a lack of high-level evidence, current guidelines recommend laparoscopic left lateral sectionectomy (LLLS) as the routine approach over open LLS (OLLS). Randomized studies and propensity score matched studies on LLLS vs OLLS for all indications, including malignancy, are lacking.Methods: This international multicenter propensity score matched retrospective cohort study included consecutive patients undergoing LLLS or OLLS in six centers from three European countries (January 2000-December 2016). Propensity scores were calculated based on nine preoperative variables and LLLS and OLLS were matched in a 1:1 ratio. Short-term operative outcomes were compared using paired tests.Results: A total of 560 patients were included. Out of 200 LLLS, 139 could be matched to 139 OLLS. After matching, baseline characteristics were well balanced. LLLS was associated with shorter operative time (144 (110-200) vs 199 (138-283) minutes, P &lt; 0.001), less blood loss (100 (50-300) vs 350 (100-750) mL, P = 0.005) and a 3-day shorter postoperative hospital stay (4 (3-7) vs 7 (5-9) days, P &lt; 0.001).Conclusion: This international multicenter propensity score matched study confirms the superiority of LLLS over OLLS based on shorter postoperative hospital stay, operative time, and less blood loss thus validating current guideline advice.</p

    Outcomes After Minimally-invasive Versus Open Pancreatoduodenectomy: A Pan-European Propensity Score Matched Study

    OBJECTIVE: To assess short-term outcomes after minimally invasive (laparoscopic, robot-assisted, and hybrid) pancreatoduodenectomy (MIPD) versus open pancreatoduodenectomy (OPD) among European centers. BACKGROUND: Current evidence on MIPD is based on national registries or single expert centers. International, matched studies comparing outcomes for MIPD and OPD are lacking. METHODS: Retrospective propensity score matched study comparing MIPD in 14 centers (7 countries) performing ≥10 MIPDs annually (2012-2017) versus OPD in 53 German/Dutch surgical registry centers performing ≥10 OPDs annually (2014-2017). Primary outcome was 30-day major morbidity (Clavien-Dindo ≥3). RESULTS: Of 4220 patients, 729/730 MIPDs (412 laparoscopic, 184 robot-assisted, and 130 hybrid) were matched to 729 OPDs. Median annual case-volume was 19 MIPDs (interquartile range, IQR 13-22), including the first MIPDs performed in 10/14 centers, and 31 OPDs (IQR 21-38). Major morbidity (28% vs 30%, P = 0.526), mortality (4.0% vs 3.3%, P = 0.576), percutaneous drainage (12% vs 12%, P = 0.809), reoperation (11% vs 13%, P = 0.329), and hospital stay (mean 17 vs 17 days, P > 0.99) were comparable between MIPD and OPD. Grade-B/C postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) (23% vs 13%, P < 0.001) occurred more frequently after MIPD. Single-row pancreatojejunostomy was associated with POPF in MIPD (odds ratio, OR 2.95, P < 0.001), but not in OPD. Laparoscopic, robot-assisted, and hybrid MIPD had comparable major morbidity (27% vs 27% vs 35%), POPF (24% vs 19% vs 25%), and mortality (2.9% vs 5.2% vs 5.4%), with a fewer conversions in robot-assisted- versus laparoscopic MIPD (5% vs 26%, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: In the early experience of 14 European centers performing ≥10 MIPDs annually, no differences were found in major morbidity, mortality, and hospital stay between MIPD and OPD. The high rates of POPF and conversion, and the lack of superior outcomes (ie, hospital stay, morbidity) could indicate that more experience and higher annual MIPD volumes are needed
